The response to Are you listed in Local Search? has been great and it is time to take local search to the next level.
When you went and entered your information to be listed in local search (you did do that right?) some of you may have noticed that your business was already listed in local search even though you had never submitted the information before. The reason is that their are a number of sites that Google and the other search engines pull information from.
Many local search experts believe that being listed in as many of the feeder sites as possible will help support your local listings and your business will show up higher in the local listings. This is especially important if you are in an industry that has a lot of your competitors registered in local search. Getting all these inbound links to your website will help your overall search engine results as well.
Here is a list of 12 sites you can register your business with. You may find that you are already list in some of them. If you are you want to make sure the information is accurate and make any needed corrections.
Each of these sites has a slightly different registration procedure but all of them are fairly self explanatory. I have taken some of the legwork out of it for you - clicking the links below will take you directly to the registration and/or submission page for the site. All these sites offer free submissions but many have paid services as well. Be careful which options you choose to make sure you don't choose one of the upgraded services if you don't want to.
You should be able to complete all these submissions within a couple of hours. Everyone is busy and I expect that submitting to these sites will be happen over a few sessions so I have created a simple checklist you can download here to keep track of the directories you have already submitted to.
I am looking forward to hearing about your results so make sure you post a comment!
